Anthem: 8 Reasons Why It Failed

6. Learning Nothing From Destiny

Speaking of 'lessons that should've been learned from Destiny,' Bungie's divisive shooter came out over 4 years ago and illustrated the rights and wrongs of shared world multiplayer games.

Even with all of the clear lessons established by that game's failings and over 6 years of development, Anthem makes so many of the same mistakes. Lack of content, compelling plotlines and a grind-fuelled gameplay loop are simply not acceptable, especially after all this.

Think about how long it took before The Taken King came out and the Destiny brand was legitimized a year after its initial release. Unlike Bungie's shooter, Anthem did not get off to a red-hot start and it's already casting serious doubt on the IP's future. Will the player base be patient enough to hold out until there are substantial content additions that flesh out the open (relatively-vacant feeling) world, similarly to The Taken King?

Leaving out any needed season passes was a nice touch, but with the best advice a current Anthem player can give to a potential one being 'Eh... wait for it to get better,' it's tough to convince gamers to buy in.
