Assassin’s Creed 3: 10 Reasons It’s Awesome

4. Hunting

Hunting in AC III €“ for animals that is €“ has enough depth and enough related challenges that it€™s easy to lose yourself completely, forgetting temporarily about the mission you€™re supposed to be doing. I€™m not the first to compare the mechanic to Red Dead Redemption€™s own hunting system. There are even specific challenges €“ like killing a bear with the hidden blade €“ that echo the epic western almost down to the letter. And that€™s not a criticism either. This hunting mechanic alone, if you let it, will consume countless hours of your life and you€™ll be highly intoxicated and compelled by every minute of it. In previous AC titles each mini-game generally involved the same old €™run-climb-kill€™ motif but AC III really strives to give each separate gameplay element its own unique set of mechanics and techniques. And by God, it really has succeeded. There are a few unique and interesting mechanics that you can occupy your time with in AC III; hunting is just one gleaming example.
