Assassin's Creed Kingdom Wishlist: 10 Things We Need To See

5. Fleshed Out Naval Combat

One such set piece could be naval battles against the Kraken, or other mighty sea creatures.

Naval combat was a fairly divisive part of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Some players felt it galvanised the series, gave real focus to the pirate setting and freshened things up for a series in danger of going stale. Others though found it too fiddly, too far removed from Assassin’s Creed’s usual sensibilities, and a lot of style with limited substance.

That naval combat has since been air lifted from Assassin’s Creed and put into the upcoming Skull & Bones. That’s set to release in March next year and so far looks like Black Flag with all the assassin stuff removed.

Kingdom though could benefit from Ubisoft fine tuning the naval combat, although Vikings versus creatures feels like a much better premise than Vikings versus other Vikings. With longships a resounding part of Viking imagery, there’ll surely be a nautical aspect to the game.

Bringing it back in this fashion would offer a fresh challenge while keeping itself unique in comparison to Black Flag and Skull & Bones. One way or another, Kingdom will surely take us into the water.
