Assassin's Creed Kingdom Wishlist: 10 Things We Need To See
6. Nuanced Fantasy Creatures & OTT Monsters
Historical accuracy has always been a bit of a thorny issue for Assassin’s Creed. There’s always been a copious amount of research gone into the games, and they’ve previously tweaked or even removed weapons that weren’t accurate to the time period.
Then again, they’ve played it a little fast and loose with several real historical figures before, including the much discussed magical boxing match with the Pope.
More recent games have included more mythical creatures and legendary beasts, which while obviously not true to life fits in perfectly with the beliefs and stories of Ancient Greek culture.
Origins meanwhile had various ridiculous and fantastical creatures, but also had a non combat mode designed specifically to teach players about Ancient Egypt. So even though you’d think accuracy would be a black or white issue, Assassin’s Creed has existed in a grey area for most of its existence.
Viking mythology is full of serpents, rams, birds and many other wonderful creatures, but Assassin’s Creed needs to tread carefully and not stray too far from its roots. A light touch involving a couple of compelling set pieces would be the best way to go.
