Assassin's Creed Kingdom Wishlist: 10 Things We Need To See

3. A Complex & Compelling Story

Ezio Brotherhood
Ubisoft

Saying that the game needs to have a good story seemingly goes without saying, but since it’s largely been ignored by Assassin’s Creed for a decent chunk of its lifecycle, it’s worth pointing out here.

Although popularity for the protagonist varies from player to player, there hasn’t been a universally popular character since Ezio. There may well be a bit of a nostalgia effect in play here, and the three protagonists of Origins and Odyssey have been arguably the best since Ezio.

Still, for a game which places a lot of emphasis on ancient lore, there’s not a whole lot of story.

It doesn’t need to be a massive, sprawling narrative with wide reaching consequences. Assassins versus Templars has become a stale crutch, and it’s stopping more personal stories from being told.

Focus on a character (or characters), build a strong, personal story for them, and give them a real personality. Make them learn how to be an assassin slowly. Let us get to know them. Give them a reason to fight. The pieces are all there, but they never seem to get put together properly.
