8. Change Time Of Day To Affect Guard Patrols & Access Routes

A tiny point that makes ALL the difference: Hold the touchpad on PS4 or Change View on Xbox to switch the time of day. You can only go from "daytime" to "night", but this changes everything from NPCs present in villages, to guard routes protecting valuable targets.

If you're struggling to pull off an assassination or simply want to thin the ranks, change the time of day and try again under cover of darkness.

Be aware that if a base is on alert, even when you come out of the time shift, things like extra reinforcements will still be present.

To reset a given place entirely, you need to leave the area. Only then can you re-approach as though it was your first time again.
