Batman: Arkham Insurgency - 9 Things It Must Learn From City
2. Return To Distinctly-Themed Levels
If there was one element where Arkham City improved on the level design of Asylum, it was in the way it themed specific areas of the map around certain villains. Rather than having you fight through the same few blocks of Gotham, each area came with a distinguished theme that made the world feel vibrant, alive, and distinctly Batman.
Whether it was the Joker's funhouse or the horrific dreamscapes conjured up by Ra's al Ghul, there was always something different and interesting to see in City that most other open world games wouldn't even think about including.
Unfortunately, Knight moved away from this style of world design somewhat, perhaps coming as a cost of its expanded map. Insurgency would do well to go back to the specifically detailed areas that City executed so well though, and if that means scaling down the sandbox a little bit, then so be it.
