Batman: Arkham Insurgency - 9 Things It Must Learn From City
3. Playable Villains Can Be An Amazing Way To Tell A Story
Although Knight was the first game to truly go all-in on creating multiple playable characters, City's implementation of a playable Catwoman did something much more interesting: let you see the game's story through the eyes of a villain.
Okay, so Catwoman isn't a straight-up baddie on the same level as the Joker or Two Face, but her morally ambiguous personality brought a freshness to the narrative and gave players a break from Batman's holier-than-thou quest for justice.
Batman is an interesting character, but his unwavering dedication to doing the right thing means that he's quite predictable. Playing as Catwoman in City on the other hand was always interesting, as even though you knew she would probably help Batman out in the end, you weren't ever sure what she'd do along the way.
Going into Insurgency the developers should take this idea even further and allow players to take control of the actual villains during certain sections, giving them the ability to add a bit more depth to the plot and explore the motivations of otherwise one-note bad guys.
