Batman: Arkham Knight - 5 Perfect Moments (And 5 That Sucked)

7. Sucks - The Fact We All Knew Who The Knight Was

Okay, so you didn't know, know - but any fan worth their Bat-salt was up to date on the various theories across the internet purporting to the Knight's identity being Jason Todd. We had everything from him to Joker, A.I. constructs to multiple people acting at once - and worst of all, Rocksteady actively said at every turn the AK was a 'brand new character'. Over and over, variations on "He's a brand new character we've created just for this game" were trotted out, all while 'Buy the Red Hood DLC!' pre-order campaigns reigned supreme. However, the moment it all sinks in is actually right at the beginning, as his very first line is "Time to die, old man". Right there and then, who else could it be? Nightwing and Robin were accounted for, and the 'old man' tag is way too personal for anyone other than Todd. Maybe it could've been Hush or Bruce's long-lost brother Thomas Wayne Jnr.? Maybe... if not for every line of dialogue the Knight then says coming across with the candour and frank demeanour of a former sidekick looking for revenge. If only Rocksteady played with expectations more, having him reveal himself only for it to be an illusion, Clayface or Hush - Joker could even have said "Don't be ridiculous Bats" or something. Instead, we get a crash-course in Todd's pre-Red Hood history through a couple of random flashback sequences to set him up, and although the reveal is well done, it all plays out exactly as you'd expect. Which would've been fine, if Rocksteady hadn't straight-up lied to try and build up the mystery in the first place.
