Battlefield 1: 11 Things You Didn't Know You Could Do

8. How To Get Scrap (Plus How Battlepacks & War Bonds Work)

Urgh, this is needlessly complicated.

First, you've got Battlepacks; the blindly unlockable 'loot boxes' that give you weapon skins and occasionally other items. Basically, to get War Bonds and Scrap (which are needed to purchase actual weapons, not just skins) you'll need more Battlepacks, which appear completely at random at the close of a match.

To get Scrap, you'll need to initially 'scrap' weapon skins that you no longer want. And the only way to get more of these is to open more Battlepacks, which means more playing and keeping your fingers crossed, or giving into the godawful circus that is the microtransaction market. From here, you can use your amassed Scrap to purchase more Battlepacks, and the cycle goes around again.

War Bonds, on the other hand, come from just ranking up, either on your main progression or through a specific class. Hitting a new rank nets you War Bonds straight-up, but they can also come from Battlepacks, which have a very low drop-rate, encouraging you to play more, scrap more, microtransaction more, and so on.

At least... that's the nearest I can figure. With DICE's system being a bit broken thanks to resigning core Class functionality to the Companion App (more on that later), this might require further clarification from players in the comments below. If so, let us all know!
