The Bad
2. Driv3r (2004)
Driv3r was one of those outrageous GTA Clones that tried, and failed to live up to Rockstar's franchise. Gallingly, it didn't even pretend to be a stand alone game in its own right - it featured a character called "Tommy Vercelli" - a definite nod to Vice City's Tommy Vercetti. The game basically allowed players to free-roam around Turkey and for the first time in the series allows players to swim - a gameplay element that the GTA series was yet to employ. Swimming would become available for the first time in Rockstar's series the year of Driv3r's release in San Andreas. That being said, Driv3r had features all too familiar to GTA, namely the ability to ride motorbikes (implemented by Rockstar a couple of years earlier in Vice City) and drive boats (a feature of GTA III). Both of which were "new" gameplay elements in the Driv3r series, but certainly not to those of us who had played GTA.
