8. Elizabeth

Your primary objective throughout Infinite is to rescue a young woman named Elizabeth, who has been help captive aboard Columbia for over a decade, and she quickly establishes herself as one of the franchise's most entertaining and intriguing characters. Elizabeth is central to the game not just because of the fact that both sides want to get a hold of her, but because of what are basically her super-powers; she can tear open portals into other alternate worlds, which helps keep things fresh when you just start to get comfortable with Columbia. Also, she can provide assistance during combat, teleporting turrets and gigantic protective walls to your position. This could have made the game seem too easy, but in reality, given the sheer number of foes thrown your way, it's just downright awesome. Though Elizabeth sticks with you for most of the game, she's not like Resident Evil 4's Ashley or the countless other annoying, helpless lambs you have to escort in games - she is a tough, resourceful character who can (for the most part) fend for herself. She is that rarest of ever-present sidekicks who never ends up ruining the experience.
