3. Papu’s Pyramid

Papu Papu isn’t a hugely popular character, but he does bring with him a brilliant track. On the face of it though, Papu’s Pyramid can seem fun but a little tame. Sure there’s a colourful spectacle and one set of constant right angle turns, but aside from the Venus Fly Traps, it’s just a run of the mill track, right?

Well, yes and no.

If you just go around the laps as standard, this track isn’t going to stand out much. Like Sewer Speedway, Deep Sea Driving and Mystery Caves, it’s another track that’s just... there. Some people might like it, or even have it as their favourite, but these sort of tracks don’t really have anything distinctive to push them ahead of the chasing pack.

Except of course that Papu’s Pyramid does. The track comes with a plethora of shortcuts, ranging from simply drifting behind the Venus Fly Traps, to leaping from platform to platform, to even cutting off the last tight bend entirely while airborne.

It’s admittedly similar to Jungle Boogie, not just in its aesthetic but in being a boss track. However, despite their surface similarities they play very differently, and therefore both warrant inclusion.
