Cyberpunk 2077: 10 Harsh Gameplay Truths You Need To Know

1. Hacking Seems Like Watch Dogs

The technological aspect of Cyberpunk has been front and centre of pretty much every piece of footage we’ve seen so far. Naturally then, the Netrunner V character, who uses cyber attacks and manipulations moreso than head to head combat, was one of the more intriguing parts of the gameplay demo.

It’s fine. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you want to play as a Netrunner, there’s nothing in the demo that will push you away from that choice, but there’s not much here to sway floating voters, either. At one point you hack a turret rather than ripping it apart, but it’s just "walk here, push that". The demo doesn’t make it feel like it’s you doing anything - you’re just following button prompts.

It is, admittedly, hard to sell something like hacking because it has to both convince you it’s incredibly complicated, yet make it easy and fluid in real time. Watch Dogs struggled from being too repetitive and flat with a great idea, and rather than springboard, Cyberpunk almost looks like its more of the same.

There’s one moment where a robot boxing trainer is hacked and pummels someone’s face off, so while the mechanics aren’t inventive, at least the ramifications of your actions will be.
