Dark Souls: 10 Cheats & Glitches That Broke The Game

5. Parry And Riposte Animation Abuse

In the Dark Souls games, you can repel an attack at a specific moment either with a parry-tool, certain shields or even your bare hands. If you land the parry, the enemy has their weapon bounce off and they move into a period of vulnerability. If you attack in this period, you get a riposte: - a brutal looking attack that deals high damage.

In the first two games, there were glitches that took advantage of these animations. In the original, if you positioned yourself correctly and then parried and riposted an enemy, the animation would move you out of the map just enough that the game expected you to fall and would default to the top-down so-called death cam.

Obviously, you would recover from this animation and despite the now awkward looking view, you would still be alive.

This meant some hard barriers that stopped you from progressing further into the game - either golden fog gates or the door to Sen’s Fortress - were not loaded and could be passed. A quit-out once past the obstacle returned the camera to normal and loaded the next part of the level as if everything had been done correctly.
