Dark Souls 2: 10 Reasons It's Your Ultimate Test As A Gamer

8. You Will Get Lost

Drangleic is a huge world to play in. In fact, it is one of the most interesting open worlds you could ever hope to explore. The problem is, nothing is signposted - at least not very well. A lot of the challenge in Dark Souls 2 is working out where you need to be at any given time. There are no floating waypoint markers telling you where you should go, everything is much more subtle than that. You need to speak to every character you happen across and completely exhaust their dialogue options to encourage them to move to their next location, otherwise you could find yourself stuck with no clue as to where to continue your journey. One of the more common complaints with the lack of direction is that most players miss a key character in the very first area of Majula because they don't spot her staring off into the sea at the edge of a cliff. As she opens up the ability to level up and heal with a refillable flask, she's extremely essential to interact with. As the game is so open, you can tackle everything in any order that you want. Stuck on the Lost Sinner boss? No problem; hot foot it back to the hub town of Majula and take a different path which will have you heading off somewhere else where you can work on levelling your character, returning to the boss with licked wounds and more combat experience under your belt. However, this freeform layout is not without its dangers, as many players have innocently enough opened a path to a new area that you aren't 'supposed' to reach until nearer the end of your game based on the health of the enemies within. Moments like that can have you staring at the 'You Died' screen far more often than you'd like to, even when just starting out, so tread carefully.
