A lot of people enjoy using printed character sheets. There’s something much more tangible about writing in all your abilities down. All them little erased marks of past battles showing through. However, when playing digitally an online character sheet can often be easier.

D&D Beyond can be an invaluable resource for any player or DM who plays virtually. Character creators, encounter builders, and combat trackers can all be used on this site. It also serves as a good source for official rules if a decision needs to be made on something.

This site is extremely useful as a reference tool for players and DM’s alike. Having information about all races, classes, and monsters. You will have to buy most of this digitally through the site, however, this will be a reference tool you will use for years to come.

The old character sheets and books are still absolutely fine to use. Some people may just prefer to have a digital version. This can be especially useful for the DM. Being able to access the party’s character sheets means they can build their encounters with more personality.
