Dungeons And Dragons: How To Play During Lockdown

4. Physical Dice Or A Digital Roller?

The click-clack of them math rocks is one of the defining sounds of any good game of Dungeons and Dragons. Seeing that piece of plastic roll across the table as your character lies dying makes for some of the game’s most dramatic moments. Most players probably have dozens of these at home. We can stop buying them anytime we want, honest.

However, by playing virtually your party may prefer a digital solution to this. There are many types of digital rollers available. As mentioned earlier, add-ons can be put into software like discord to simplify this. You can even find ones that work in your browser.

Some still like the real dice, but it gives your party options. Some DM’s use digital dice to try and stop cheating. I think if someone in your party is going to cheat, they would find a way.

I still recommend keeping the DM dice private, though. Holding for dramatic effect and fudging those numbers occasionally can really help the game. There’s nothing scarier than a DM randomly rolling dice, then telling you not to worry about it.
