7. Splatoon: Nintendos Take On Third-Person Shooters
As previously mentioned, Nintendo definitely made multiplayer a key focus in their E3 digital presentation, and Splatoon was probably one of the best examples of this. Splatoon is a team based first-person shooter that trades the guns and kills of games such as Call of Duty for a more family-friendly experience. The game sees players switching between playing as a human and their squid counterpart, with the aim being to ink as much as the map in your team colour as possible before the match ends. The team who has the most of their colour inked over the map by the end of the match wins the round. Your soldier carries a gun filled with vibrant ink that coats every surface it lands on. It looks colourful, fun and silly, and is sure to be a winner among families. Nintendos presentation went in to great detail about the game mechanics. For instance, the switch between playing as a human and a squid is seamless, allowing for two different game experiences. As a human, your task is to ink the landscape, fire at rival teammates and keep your colour flowing. However, switch to a squid and you can traverse through your coloured ink on the floor, allowing you to transport your soldier to your desired destination much quicker than on foot. Thankfully, Splatoon makes use of the intuitive Game Pad controller, a device that has not been as utilised as it should be in so many previous Wii U games. Here for example, holding the Game Pad in front of you allows helps you to move, control your character and the camera effortlessly. However, for those traditionalists out there, the game does support the standard control stick and button set up also. Fast, frantic and refreshing, Nintendo plan to release Splatoon, another Wii U exclusive title, during the first half of 2015. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L54s2m1dPs
