It has been a rumour and a hope passed around among fans for some time now, but Nintendo chose E3 to officially announce that a new Star Fox title is in the works. Left off of Nintendos live-streamed digital presentation, the upcoming Star Fox title was shown at during a pre-E3 private event last Sunday. Demonstrated by Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto, participants were shown sections of gameplay, shown for the first time in high definition. Somewhat of a departure from the formula adopted on the SNES and N64 versions, this yet unnamed Star Fox game takes full advantage of the Game Pads second screen, allowing for third and first person perspectives when flying, and better aiming. Whilst at this stage the game is in its very early stages, Miyamoto did manage to reveal three different modes. The first, called Arwing, is classic Star Fox, involving sky combat, with the option to also continue the fight on the ground by transforming in to a tank. The second, Vs Wolf, puts players against enemy Wolf ODonnell and works in a similar vein to the Arwing mode, and finally the third, called City, places players in to a helicopter flying over an urban landscape, with the GamePad screen showing a top-down view of what is below. Two mini games were also included in the showing. Add these together and it looks like it is the making of a promising game that should, hopefully, please the Star Fox fans who have been craving a new entry in to the series for so long now.
