E3 2014: 14 Best Moments From Microsoft’s Press Conference

5. Rise Of The Tomb Raider

Third party games have always been a staple of E3 press conferences for console makers like Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. Revealing a game in a specific hardware-maker€™s press conference is a sign of confidence in their hardware €“ or for the more cynical, a sign that that the companies in question are pretty cozy. But no matter how the game got there, it€™s always an exciting moment to see a game get revealed, especially when you had no idea who€™d get first dibs on it. Rise of the Tomb Raider was an exciting reveal for a few reasons. First, it wasn€™t spoiled ahead of time, like many other E3 reveals. Second, no one expected it to be in Microsoft€™s press conference, given Square Enix€™s history with Sony. Third, it was a well made trailer that emphasized that wouldn€™t ignore the consequences of the first game in the Tomb Raider reboot. For a medium that has a spotty record with storytelling, that reassurance gives us gamers hope that Eidos won€™t drop the ball when fleshing out their version of Laura Croft.
