E3 2014: 14 Best Moments From Microsoft’s Press Conference
6. Indie Game Blowout
For years, indie games were barely relevant in the console space. But as the last generation of consoles got older, indie games became a bigger and bigger part of the console game lineup. Now consoles use indies to shore up their release schedules between the big AAA game releases, making a solid indie catalog a must-have for any hardware-maker. Microsoft started strong with Inside, a new game from the developers of Limbo, before starting up a montage encompassing a wide range of upcoming indie games. One game that stood out the most was Cuphead, a game that uses an art style mimicking Disneys old cartoons from the 1930s and 40s. Other standouts included first person fantasy games that look almost as good as first person titles from AAA studios. With an indie lineup like that, Microsoft looks like its making all the right moves to keep gamers interested in the Xbox One, even when the big tentpole games arent showing up.
