E3 2017: 8 Ups & 7 Downs From Microsoft's Conference
4. The Last Night Is A Retro Delight
Arguably the big out-of-nowhere surprise from this year's show was the reveal of The Last Night, a cyberpunk platformer that melds 8-bit retro visuals with state-of-the-art lighting and backgrounds to give it a totally unique look among the genre.
The Blade Runner influences are worn giddily on its sleeve, and the narrative reportedly follows a man named Charlie who is totally obsolete in a world surrounded by machines that, due to a childhood accident, he is unable to interface with as other humans can.
It looks and sounds beautiful, evoking the mood of platforming classic Flashback, though it remains to be seen exactly how slickly the game will shift between cinematics and actual gameplay. Fingers crossed...
