Bethesda’s conference was a strange one, it started decidedly tense but as they ate some serious humble pie about their haphazard past year - plus threw a bunch of free stuff to their loyal user base - the tide changed ever slightly.
They saved the biggest for last, giving an in-depth look at a winner of a title; Doom Eternal. The fans were ecstatic throughout the gameplay footage and the presentation peaked as they gave a soonish release date.
It appeared all was right, then the developers added that the title will also be coming with a super expensive collectors edition, in the shape of the Demon-Slayers helmet. Suddenly the room echoed with some distinct booing; likely the ill-will of Fallout 76’s utter garbage collectors edition still fresh.
i.d had to suddenly and nervously explain ‘no, it’s a real helmet…really’. Looks like they were able to squeak out of a disastrous year, but at least now they know not to push their luck too soon.
