Fallout 76 launched to a disaster that scorned many fans but it's not uncommon with most ambitious games-as-service titles nowadays – they get updated and improved over time.
Yet, it was also the after effects of dodgy collector's items, business practices, etc, that really soured things for Bethesda; a studio that had its rough-edges but always felt like they had gamers interest at their heart at least.
Well, it was an awkward time to hold a conference but in all fairness, founder Todd Howard came out and ate some serious ‘humble pie’ – what else could they do really?
He thanked the gamers for staying loyal and stated they 'had no excuses' for the launch. Then they threw a bunch of free updates and improvements on the game; including actual NPCs, dialogue trees and…hmmmm...a Battle Royale mode.
While it wasn’t a sure-fire 180 for the studio, they at least have made it clear they are committed to turning the tide around for 76 in the long run.
