Every Call Of Duty Campaign Ranked Worst To Best
12. Black Ops 2
Black Ops 2 is a decent shooter with some striking character interactions, battle scenes and daring gameplay. This game signalled the first time CoD ever tried its hand at some more sci-fi based action, and though not all of it was bad, its constantly shifting tone and narrative inconsistency let it down massively in the end.
Considering how tightly-wound its predecessor was, Black Ops 2 still feels like a major step down from the franchise's otherwise remarkable quality.
Now, there's no denying it's great to see old characters return to the fold, and as ever the action is impressive, explosive and all things CoD, the sheer confusion of the main plot is a major distraction from the game's better attributes.
What sums up the game's convoluted construction is the player's ability to chose exactly how the plot plays out - a startling achievement that is for the most part a welcome addition to the CoD roster, even if it gets a bit tiresome in the end.
Black Ops 2 deserves credit for taking so many risks, but maybe could have dialled them back to make a more coherent story.
