4. God Of War

God of war 2016
Sony

Rebuilding the series from the ground up, it makes sense Sony would revamp God of War in every respect following its overly-brutal third instalment. Protagonist Kratos had become ludicrously one-dimensional, with controls that finally made us realise we'd had enough of the 'square, square, triangle' combo used for many years previous.

The new God of War is a far more considered beast, somewhat akin to The Last of Us in terms of pacing as we pick up Kratos' story long after he's 'retired' from killing the gods to help raise a child. Gameplay looks entirely different, with combat being less about button-mashing and - by the looks of things - more in-line with the Souls-style of choosing your moves and dodging appropriately.

If Sony can pull this off and reinvigorate such an otherwise 'dead' character, it speaks volumes as to the future of their other IPs going forward.
