Although it was released in Japan in 2016, Yakuza 6 is expected to drop worldwide early next year, potentially riding some unexpected hype. This year's Yakuza 0 surprisingly connected to a large audience of series newcomers (particularly strange considering that 0 was a prequel), who have since embraced the franchise in anticipation of this sixth main release.

The series has always drawn players in with its enticing mix of gangster action and eccentric weirdness, but now it seems to be breaking out of its dedicated niche fanbase and into the mainstream. It probably won't be as big as Persona 5, but Yakuza 6 could prove that there's still a ravenous audience out there for great Japanese titles.
