Evolution Of FIFA 15 - 21 Years Of Incredible Football Graphics

10. FIFA 06

The upcoming FIFA World Cup in Germany meant that EA felt obliged to overload us with FIFA titles even more than usual. We got our standard annual release on the core sixth-generation systems in October 2005, followed two months later with FIFA Road To FIFA World Cup, this time for the first time on something different... Microsoft's fancy new Xbox 360. And then, a short five months later, 2006 FIFA World Cup. You've got to admit that by this point it was all getting a bit much. Regardless, the standard FIFA 06 was once again a marginal improvement over the previous years version, refining the animations and texturing once more. The Xbox 360 debut, on the other hand, brought significant change for the first time in years. High profile players looked increasingly similar to the real life superstars, while the on-field action was sleek and lifelike compared to the PS2 & Xbox versions. The game modes were drastically cut back, though, and the Xbox 360 edition ended up being one of the lowest rated FIFA games of all time.

9. FIFA 07

After a rough start, EA Canada had grown in confidence with the Xbox 360 hardware by this point. A fresh game engine meant completely reworked physics, intense player collisions and a less scripted feel, although the gameplay was regarded derivative of Konami's Pro Evo at the time. Franchise fatigue was setting in badly by now, especially on the older consoles where things had changed very little over the past year. At least the legacy systems got the full package though - the next-gen version was once again heavily trimmed in terms of leagues and playable teams, supposedly because the creation of the new game engine ate up more development time that expected. The trade-off was worth it for Xbox 360 gamers who wanted to see what their machines were capable of, as FIFA 07 was undoubtedly the most stunning footie title to appear on a home console.

Game-obsessed since the moment I could twiddle both thumbs independently. Equally enthralled by all the genres of music that your parents warned you about.
