Fallout 5: 10 Latest Rumours You Need To Know
4. It Could Also Be Getting The MMO Treatment
Fallout 5 might not be the only new entry in the series that Bethesda is developing in secret. The studio previously worked on two Elder Scrolls titles - Skyrim and Online - concurrently and released them three years apart. Could the post-apocalyptic franchise be in for the same treatment?
There's evidence that it might be. Several years back, Masthead Studios and Interplay were putting together the online multiplayer title Fallout Online, only for the project to end up cancelled, and the rights to it winding up on Bethesda's doorstep.
The studio has never revealed any firm plans to revive the game, but last year, iDigitalTimes reported that ZeniMax and Bethesda were looking to hire a programmer with experience in "developing for online multiplayer environment.”
While that's by no means concrete evidence a Fallout MMO is in the works, it's not something that can be dismissed, since The Elder Scrolls Online has performed reasonably well and evolved significantly since its launch in 2014.
A multiplayer online Fallout would likely prove divisive, but there's no reason it wouldn't also be profitable if launched off the back of Fallout 5.
