FIFA 13: 7 Things That Would Have Guaranteed Perfection
It's now been a few days since FIFA 13 landed on retail shelves, picking up a five star review from this website in the process, and now that the dust has settled it's time to reflect a little more deeply on what is arguably the finest footballing video game to ever be released to the market. Overall in fact, this year's marketplace for footballing games was a particularly strong one, thanks to the resurgence of Pro Evo 2013, and the annual uplift in quality from EA Sports' own addition to the genre - but there was still room for improvement for both games. This year Konami made some serious strides to catch FIFA, rebuilding the gameplay engine with admirable success, but they were forced to make some compromises in presentation quality, and there is a distinct lack of gloss about this year's release. That isn't quite as fatal a problem as some might have you believe - and neither are the licensing issues that have dogged the property since day one - but Konami will see even more success next year by fine-tuning what they have already achieved this year. Bringing a little more fluidity to the AI will help, and EA Sports will no doubt be looking over their shoulders with a little more urgency after this year's round of releases. So what do EA Sports need to do to make their own game better? How do you improve on a game that scored impressive reviews almost across the board, with five stars liberally given out by the most impressed reviewers, like myself? Well, despite the inference of that "perfect" score, I fully recognise that FIFA 13 could have been better, and since we're in the business of fantasy, I've looked back at FIFA 13 with a more cynical eye and identified what extra features and developments would have made the game a perfect release. Read on to see my picks for what would have guaranteed perfection for EA Sports and FIFA 13...
