When Ivan Rakitic was signed by Barcelona in 2014, nobody really expected him to have the impact he has done. Xavi was on the way out, and the club needed a quicker and livelier operator in the centre of the park.

The Croatian maestro has excelled masterfully for Barcelona, his technical ability having gone under the radar somewhat at Sevilla. Now having been provided with the platform to showcase his ability to the world, he is demonstrating just what a fine player he is.

The opening goal in the 14/15 Champions League final against Juventus engraved his name into supporters' hearts, and he has gone from strength to strength since.

Last season, he played 57 times as Barcelona stormed to five trophies and even found the back of the net in a Euro 2016 game against Czech Republic.
