FIFA 18 Wishlist: 10 Things That Must Be Included
8. More Women’s Football
Women’s football was first implemented in FIFA 16, and it felt like a real step forward. Though the women’s game still has some catching-up to do, its popularity has definitely increased in recent years, particularly in America, whose most famous player - Carli Lloyd - recently signed for Manchester City. Thus, it made perfect sense for EA Sports to capitalise on this wave, and try to draw some women’s football followers into the FIFA franchise.
FIFA 17 featured women’s football for a second year running, but little to no progress had been made on its implementation. The game offered nothing in the way of new features, competitions, and playable teams. If you want to play as the women, you’re pretty much restricted to international games and nothing else. There are no clubs to be found at all, and after FIFA 16, it feels like 17 stagnated when it comes to women’s football.
There’ll no doubt come a day when FIFA’s female representation is far more comprehensive, and competitions like the FA Women’s Super League and America’s NWSL are present and correct. At this stage, it feels like EA have only done half the job when it comes to this side of the game, and there’s huge scope for expansion.
