Final Fantasy 7: Ranking Every Main Character From Worst To Best

6. Barret Wallace

Final Fantasy 7 Cloud
Square Enix

Barret starts as the tough talking leader of an eco-terrorist group. He doesn't come off very likeable until later in the story when you see how much he cares about his friends, the planet, and his adoptive daughter.

His cool look begins and ends with a badass gun arm. Just as brash and foul-mouthed as Cid, Barret comes with a lot of heart and wants nothing more than to protect the planet and Marlene.

Barret fits the "warrior" class for Final Fantasy. Don't bother with too much magic materia as you'll get the most out of him when letting his gun arm go full strength. His limit breaks AngerMax and Catastrophe are awesome. He's a mainstay in the story from beginning to end and he'll need to be strong enough to go mano e mano with Dyne.

Barret is our first side character. We're alongside him when his past is revealed and we see the guilt on his shoulders for what happened to his village and his best friend.

He'd be ranked higher, but once he fights Dyne, he's mostly just muscle for the group, and no longer looked at for leadership. If you ignore some occasionally outdated dialogue, we have a character with a lot of heart and one that can be very useful. He'll be there with you in the end.
