4. Tifa Lockhart
With Tifa, Square Enix created one of the best characters in all of Final Fantasy.
She's tough with a strong personality. She's lived through some terrible things. She knows Cloud pines after Aerith, yet she's always going to care for him and support him. Despite all the downs in her life, she's still the most optimistic person in the whole party.
Tifa gets a little bonus point here as she's the controlled character for a bit while Cloud is finding himself. While not a tank in the HP department, she can be very useful through sheer speed and her fists.
Just don't load her down with magic materia. Her limit slots win out over Cait Sith as at least there's not an instant death option. Tifa's limit is unique in there is some skill involved on the player's end as you try to line up as many "Yeahs" and "Hits" as possible.
There's a reason so many people have a crush on Tifa. She's an amazing character and isn't just around to be eye-candy or a damsel in distress. She can kick ass with the best of them.
