Final Fantasy 7: Ranking Every Main Character From Worst To Best

3. Aerith Gainsborough

Final Fantasy 7 Cloud
Square Enix

The fact she's in the game less than all our playable characters, yet still comes out as one of the most beloved characters in Final Fantasy history - is testament to Aerith's loving personality and depth. This beautiful flower girl stays in our hearts long after her death.

Now, spoiler alert: She doesn't make it to the end of the game.

Once you know this, it's very hard to concentrate any time on leveling her up. She's heavily involved in the first part of the game and is the best mage on the team. All of her limits are support-based, so while she can't single-handedly take out an enemy, she can heal, protect, silence your enemies and fill the other characters' limits so they can finish the job.

Cloud may be the main character and dude on the cover, but Final Fantasy 7 is really Aerith's story.

She's the last Ancient, and so important to the whole story that even 2 discs later, we're still reeling over losing her.
