Final Fantasy VII Remake: 10 Huge Things That Could Go Terribly Wrong

4. Westernising The 'Quirkier' Aspects

There is something very distinctly Japanese about wandering around a seedy town so that you can find all of the appropriate accessories to pass yourself off as a lady - to such a convincing fashion that you can woo a horny mob boss to select you for an evening of "fun". That's without even mentioning the love hotel in the same town. The point is that Final Fantasy VII has very Japanese sensibilities that will no longer be hidden behind blocky graphics when the new game comes along. While this could cause issues for Square Enix when bringing the game to a more mainstream audience, they should avoid the temptation to Westernise any aspects of the story or the things that players encounter while playing. This goes for the RPG mechanics as well. Nobody is going to be playing the Final Fantasy VII remake so that they can experience something more akin to Fallout or Skyrim. The game needs to be true to its roots to ensure that fans of traditional JRPGs aren't left disappointed.
