Besides the obvious baddie with the big long sword, Final Fantasy VII more subtly made the concepts of capitalism and commercialism two of its chief antagonists. Central to this premise is a megacorp to end all megacorps, the monopolistic electricity company Shin-Ra.

Taking them down constitutes the bulk of FFVII's opening segment; the game begins with Cloud recruited to eco-terrorist cell AVALANCHE as they attempt to destroy Shin-Ra's planet-killing Mako reactors, whatever the human cost. The arc concludes with our gang of heroes storming the conglomerate's HQ themselves, causing several floorsworth of rank-and-file salarymen to wet their pants in fear of a chap with a gun on his hand and a boy with a massive sword.

It's here we learn the intricacies of Shin-Ra's corporate structure, and in particular, the heads of each of its departments, Courtesy of the demo leak, we've been gifted our first shots of Shin-Ra top brass Palmer (Head of Space), Reeve (Urban Development), Scarlet (Weapons), and Rufus (the President's son and next in line). We also got a glimpse of Shin-Ra's top boffin Dr. Hojo - who now looks like a cross between Dr. Strangelove and Dr. Robotnik.
