Five Years Later: 10 Things You Learn Replaying Batman: Arkham Knight

1. The Ending Should Be Left Alone

Batman Arkham Knight Comic
Rocksteady

To be clear, Arkham Knight is an excellent game.

Despite its flaws, anybody who has even a passing interest in the Dark Knight will find an enjoyable experience with an engaging story, a beautiful world and perfectly refined gameplay.

With that said however, it is clear that Rocksteady intended for this game to be the end of this Batman's story. Despite its ambiguity, there is still a sense of closure in the games ending - it is made clear that this Gotham no longer needs a Batman.

Across four games, this Batman has shown himself to be less interested in self-preservation and more with doing the best thing for Gotham. The loss of his identity was the last thing he had to give to Gotham, and now that it is gone, there is nothing else he can do for it, marking an appropriate end to his crusade. The game's emotional climax would be made redundant if the story were to continue, and it is clear from the ending that Rocksteady feel the same way.

Superman, anyone?
