Football Manager 2018: 10 Essential Fan Demands It Must Include
5. Varied New Roles
While Football Manager gives you complete flexibility when it comes to where you start your career, there’s only one choice as far as your specific role goes. You’re either a full-time first-team manager, or you’re unemployed - that’s it. There’s no scope for anything else, and while this has been the game’s backbone for years, it’s not entirely realistic.
A huge number of real world football managers start their careers elsewhere on the backroom staff, and slowly work their way up. On that note, it’d be great to see SI offer players the opportunity to manager club’s youth and reserve teams as a “foot in the door” for their managerial career. This would obviously remove transfers and contract decisions, but it’d be a fun challenge nonetheless.
Similarly, FM still lacks the opportunity to join a club as a caretaker or temporary manager, and earn the chance of a longer stint through strong performances. It’s very surprising that SI haven’t implemented this feature yet, given its prominence in the modern game, and doing so would give Football Manager 18 yet another level of realism.
