Football Manager 2018: 10 Essential Fan Demands It Must Include
3. Chairman Mode
Football Manager is obviously the most comprehensive management experience to be offered in a football game. Nothing else has ever come close, and while a handful of competitors keep limping through a meagre existence, failure is an inevitability. Developers can’t compete with SI’s extensive network and decades of hard work, and all other management games feel shallow by comparison.
That being said, there has only ever been one way to play the game, and that’s as the head coach. It's called Football Manager after all, but regardless, Chairmen and Directors of Football continue playing an increased role in the modern game. Whether it’s meddling Mike Ashley at Newcastle or Real Madrid’s infamous president Florentino Perez, these figures are just as influential within the club, and playing their role would be a welcome additional.
It would see FM become much more of a business simulator, rather than a sports game. Players would be granted greater control over budgets, marketing, and facility improvements. They’d also have the opportunity to hire and fire managers, of course, placing the player several levels above the usual hotseat, and completely changing FM’s power dynamic.
