8. More Micromanagement

Anybody out there remember Ultimate Soccer Manager? Pretty great, wasn’t it?

While USM was a rival of the early Championship Managers for a spell, what helped to give it one-up on the Champ Manager series was the sheer number of things you could do. Not just were you, as manager, there to oversee the team and its players, but the game allowed you to micromanage a huge amount of other elements associated with running a football club.

So, as well as looking after a squad of players, you had the option to design and improve the stadium, you could partake in match-fixing, you were able to offer bungs to other teams, and you even had a say in what greasy food was sold around the ground.

Maybe this wouldn’t be an addition for the FM purists, but it would certainly be all kinds of fun to see some of Ultimate Soccer Manager’s charms brought to life in Football Manager 2020.
