3. 5-2-3 WB Wide

Here, it's a case of taking the crazy bombing-forward WCBs of the prior 5-2-3 and just calming things down a little in that regard.

There are still two Wide Centre-Backs at play, but those players now have a defensive approach that will see them spread wide to cover your Wing-Backs rather than looking to get past those Wing-Backs. You'll also have a central CB who drops back a little thanks to the Cover instruction.

Attacking-wise, it's all about your Inside Forwards looking to get into the box as much as possible, freeing up space for those Wing-Backs to run into down either flank. Likewise, you have your Mezzala who will drift into the space vacated by those IFs.

The Gegenpress approach obviously means again you'll need to be keeping on eye of fitness levels and squad rotation, but that's always a given with any tactic based around intense pressing and high engagement. You'll also need a Ball Winning Midfielder who's consistent, as they'll be pivotal in allowing your attacking players to, well, play.

If all goes to plan, this variation of 5-2-3 could and should have you playing somewhat like Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea side.
