Gears Of War 4: 9 Things We Can't Wait To See
4. Is 'More Of The Same' Enough?
Not to throw a coin on the tracks of the hype train, but it must be addressed how totally flat the Gears 4 beta was. Mostly down to newly-formed devs, The Coalition assembling the game engine from scratch all over again, when playing the multiplayer component, it just didn't feel right.
Controls weren't tight, playable characters all blurred into one and general animations felt worse than those from over a decade ago. Put simply, it actually ended up souring many fans on the question of whether this new team could deliver, and that's before we got to the lengthy single player footage since.
Because the thing is, Gears of War 4 looks to play exactly the same as its four brethren, right down to the same roll-dodge animations and chainsaw finishers. Granted, additional executions are in and you can pull enemies over cover for quick fatalities, but that's it.
Considering the franchise's detractors point to the fact Gears 1-3 and Judgment were just "the same thing over and over", any prospective buyer needs to ask themselves if the prospect of "just more Gears" is enough.
