God of War: Ascension - 5 Reasons It's Awesome, 5 Reasons It Sucks

3. The Trial Of Archimedes

The God of War games have always posed a fair degree of challenge, though the consensus has always been that it's a fair challenge. In Ascension, this challenge is taken to infuriating new heights during a section near the tail-end of the game called The Trial of Archimedes, which sees you taking on wave after wave of enemies for what feels like about half an hour, with no save point to bail you out in between. Yes, if you die during this section, you have to start again, and I guarantee you - you are going to die. Very few enemies in this portion give out health orbs, and so you have to rely on magic and quick-thinking to get through it. It basically requires the player to have near-perfect reaction times, and given how exasperated with it I became just on Normal difficulty, those who try to take things further are likely to end up tearing their hair out in frustration. This is easily the hardest section of any God of War game, and one that I expect for many will end up stopping them playing altogether, which is a shame, because the final boss battle is a doozy.
