God Of War PS4 Review: 8 Ups & 1 MINOR Down
4. Loot System Adds Meaningful Attacks & Armour Sets
As encouragement to wander away from the main quest and indulge in side content, there's fairly thinly-veiled loot system.
Based on numerics attached to Strength, Defence, Runic etc., the most meaningful thing you can find are the aforementioned special attacks, which attach to your weapon. These new animations do make a key difference, letting you attack groups of foes in one go, perhaps chaining three elemental downward thrusts into one animation - or even summoning a whirling tornado of ice shards.
Other perks are chance or situation-specific activations like strength boosts or health restoration charms - all of which you'll acquire along the story path, but come in abundance from side missions and chance encounters.
You can also tell that Sony's art department have had a blast designing armour sets in their various configurations. God of War's offerings rival only Injustice 2 when it comes to that feeling of wanting to wear everything at once.
