GTA Batman: What If Rockstar Made A Game Set In Gotham

Gameplay Dynamics

Control Control is similar to what you might expect from a Rockstar Batman game. It is of course third-person and we have full control over the camera (we€™re gonna want to see the Batman in action from multiple angles after all). I€™m doubtful that a combat system could be devised that€™s more Batmanesque than that in the Arkham series, so the melee combat mechanics here would emulate it in a way that acts as a happy medium between Rocksteady and Rockstar. And as for movement, Batman is extremely versatile and so we€™re of course given the ability to glide and to climb most surfaces, or failing that grapple up them, effectively giving us two world maps; the ground and the rooftops. Vehicles As either Bruce Wayne or Batman, you€™re eventually able to hit Gotham City in whatever vehicle you desire out of the Batmobile, the Batwing, Batbike or Batboat, any of Bruce Wayne€™s classic cars of course, (driven by either yourself or by Alfred). This effectively negates the need for literal grand theft auto; as Batman you can remotely summon any of your vehicles at the touch of a button or two and as Bruce Wayne you can always call for Alfred, who€™ll dutifully appear to drop off a vehicle, or give you a lift wherever you need to go. Detection Of course no Batman game would be even nearly complete without factoring in his deductive powers. He is the World€™s Greatest Detective after all. As you travel around Gotham, you might notice objects that emit a vague green glow (the function of an upgradeable filter in the cowl€™s ocular interface). If this happens, it means something€™s not right about the object. It might be nothing, but closer inspection might reveal a clue leading to a side mission, or perhaps a special item. The detection system also plays a large part in both the main story and any side missions you choose to do. To advance certain story lines, just like in the comics, you€™ll need to follow trails, analyse evidence to discover the next step in your investigation and conduct procedures like autopsies and interrogations in order to piece together the mystery. RPG Elements As we€™ll discuss in more detail later, you don€™t have access to all of Batman€™s iconic gear and gadgetry from the start of the game. Starting at the beginning, you€™d have to grow as a vigilante. In fact you don€™t even begin the game as Batman; when you take control, you€™re just a pissed off Bruce Wayne, son to murdered parents. But as you progress through the story and gain Xp, you can unlock more and more from the Batman canon via Lucius Fox €“ vehicles, gadgets, abilities €“ effectively allowing you to be the Batman as he rises up from two-bit vigilante to Symbol of Gotham City. This also directly affects the Villains you can face; you might be able to apprehend Calendar Man at level 3, but best avoid Killer Croc until you€™re a bit more established. Gotham City will react to you depending on your progression through the story and your current level. As you progress and level up, you€™ll unlock various monikers, which reflect how Gotham€™s denizens feel toward you. Starting with things like €˜Thug€™, €˜Menace€™ and €˜Criminal€™ you€™ll slowly rise the ranks to €˜Vigilante€™ and €˜Anti-hero€™, getting progressively more awesome with €˜The Caped Crusader€™ and €˜The Dark Knight€™ before finally settling on the top level €“ €˜Symbol of Gotham€™.
