10. Heat (1995)
Michael Mann's epic crime "saga" is often viewed as the quintessential Los Angeles crime movie.
Heat holds a huge legacy in its own right - and it certainly doesn't hurt that it stars both Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in their first on-screen collaboration. Aside from being a brutal meditation on what it means to be both a criminal and a cop,
Heat is also known for its highly realistic gun fights and some truly awesome heist sequences.
The Influence? There's so much of Michael Mann's style packed into nearly all of the games in the series, both tonally and aesthetically, though the "Three Leaf Clovers" mission in
Grand Theft Auto 4 is an obvious, all-out homage to the central heist in
Heat. Niko uses the same gun to commit the heist, and wears a similar costume (suit and balaclava). A character named "Michael" also dies in both the movie and the game during the escape.
