6. Familiarity Breeds Contempt

If one of the previous protagonists were indeed to return, I€™d argue that franchise disinterest would start to brew. Gamers are a notoriously fickle bunch (no offense; I lump myself in with that statement) and I can€™t help but feel that many would suddenly turn on Claude or Tommy Vercetti if they were even remotely different from their original iterations. But if they weren€™t different then how can character progression have taken place in the backstory? In short, while a returning protagonist might seem potentially awesome, since variety is in fact the spice of life, I argue that R* would be shooting themselves in the foot in the long-term.
