2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Personal Rating 9/10 The third and final installment in the Modern Warfare series, Modern Warfare 3 was easily the biggest release of 2011. After the success of MW2, millions of Call of Duty fans waited with baited breath to play the final game in the series. The game ties up the storyline well, and the online multiplayer mode was expanded further as it continued to attract millions of users. Personally, Call of Duty games are my favourite to play online, and MW3 is no exception. The immense popularity of Call of Duty and the extensive marketing campaign carried out by Activision meant that MW3 grossed more than $775 million globally within the first five days of availability, and continues to make steady sales. I know of people who booked days off work well in advance knowing this game's release date, and I am sure that thousands more called in sick. I also expect a similar pattern when the newest game in the multi-billion dollar franchise, Call of Duty: Ghosts, is released later this year.
